What to do if rechargeable hearing aids get wet

Check the exact instructions after a rechargeable hearing aid gets wet. Separate water resistance, charging, drying and service instead of using home remedies.

Pause and use the exact water-exposure instructions

If a rechargeable hearing aid gets wet, do not assume that putting it in the charger is the next step. Check the manufacturer’s procedure for the exact device and case. This guide does not establish that a wet device is safe to charge or that a home remedy will restore it.

The FDA advises protecting hearing aids from moisture and heat and warns against a hair dryer, oven or microwave. A device and its case can have different limits, so do not transfer a hearing aid’s water-resistance claim to the charger.

Describe the exposure before seeking support

  • Was it rain, sweat, clean water or another liquid?
  • Were the hearing aid and case both affected?
  • Is there visible damage, unusual heat, an odor or a change in operation?
  • Which model and instructions apply?

Record what you know without repeatedly powering or charging the aid to see whether it is fixed. Stop use where there is overheating, damage or another safety concern and obtain the manufacturer’s guidance.

A rating is not a recovery procedure

The IP67 claim recorded for the named Edge reference does not by itself permit swimming, exposure to soap or cleaning under a tap. Follow the actual manual limits. We have not verified the rating by testing.

The Nova case’s drying feature is also not evidence that it repairs accidental liquid damage. A marketing function should not replace a water-exposure procedure or justify using a malfunctioning device.

Resolve use and service before the deadline

Ask whether the device needs inspection, whether the case may be used and which written service terms apply. A return period, defect warranty and accidental-damage plan are different arrangements.

After the immediate issue is resolved, review the model’s ordinary storage routine. A planned dryer purchase is not a verified repair. Ear pain, irritation or a sudden hearing change needs appropriate medical advice rather than an assumption that the hearing aid explains everything.

Exact model examples to check

  • iBstone Edge — On-device button; Up to 24 hours; 125-hour case/backup claim requires scope confirmation.
  • iBstone Nova — On-device volume button; 20 hours per charge / 100 hours with case stated.

These examples illustrate the documented task, not a ranking or a compatibility guarantee. The linked model pages retain research dates and unresolved limits.
